There's No Excuses For Kentucky And Coach Cal Failing (Again) In March, Now It's The Most Important NCAA Tournament In Cal's Career
Yep, let's get it out of the way. A shitshow, a failure for 40 minutes. No other way to put it. The defense was as bad as it's been all year. Reed Sheppard had 1 shot in the last 26 minutes. Antonio Reeves was in foul trouble. Justin Edwards and DJ Wagner were terrible. Cal's lineups made no sense. There's not one positive except the SEC is for sure getting more teams in the NCAA Tournament. Bid collusion at the expense of Cal who has said the entire time that he doesn't care about the SEC Tournament.
More importantly it just cost Kentucky a 3 seed. I don't know how they stay on that line now. You're going to fall to the 4 line because of this defense. You have to win 6 in a row to keep this fanbase happy now. Otherwise it's another offseason with the same old tiring debate that's started a Civil War among Kentucky fans. Can't have it.
And I'm not a blame the refs guy, but this is the worst call these eyes have ever seen:
The more I think about it the more embarrassing it is that Cal didn't take his team off the court in protest. Then the loss wouldn't have counted. That's what he's gotta do if he wants to prove a point about the SEC Tournament not mattering.
Now does it mean anything to win the SEC Tournament? No, not necessarily. But you can't lose this game. You have to have some sort of momentum. You have to keep your best seed. You can't keep losing in the SEC Tournament like the last 4 years have gone and say we'll figure it out. It doesn't work that way unless you are making Final Fours and winning a couple titles.
Fuck.
